Don’t Let Your Wedding Be a Flip-Flop Flop: How to Choose Sustainable Footwear for Your Big Day

Weddings are a time to celebrate love, happiness, and joy. They are also a time to dance the night away with your friends and family. But what happens when your feet start to ache from wearing high heels or uncomfortable shoes? Do you have to endure the pain, or do you have another option?

Many couples choose to provide disposable flip flops for their guests at their wedding reception. The idea is to offer a comfortable and convenient alternative to shoes that might hurt or damage the feet. Disposable flip flops are usually cheap, plastic, and colourful, and come in different sizes and styles. They are often placed in baskets or crates near the dance floor, where guests can easily grab a pair and join the fun.

However, while disposable flip flops might seem like a nice gesture, they also have a negative impact on the environment. (And can anyone even bust some moves in flip-fops?!) Most disposable flip flops are made from synthetic materials that are not biodegradable or recyclable. They end up in landfills or oceans, where they pollute the soil and water, and harm the wildlife. According to some estimates, more than 3 billion pairs of flip flops are produced every year, and most of them end up as waste

So, what can you do if you want to have a more eco-friendly wedding? One option is to bring your own spare pair of flat shoes in your bag. This way, you can switch to a more comfortable footwear whenever you need to, without creating any extra waste. You can also encourage your guests to do the same, by mentioning it in your invitation or wedding website.

Another option is to look for sustainable alternatives to disposable flip flops. There are many brands that offer flip flops made from natural, recycled, or plant-based materials that are better for the environment. These are just some examples of eco-friendly flip flops that you can buy online or in stores.

  • Waves Flip Flops are made from natural rubber that is ethically sourced and biodegradable.
  • Etiko offers fair trade flip flops made from natural and recycled rubber.
  • NAE has vegan flip flops made from cork and pineapple leather.

By choosing one of these options, you can still enjoy dancing at your wedding without hurting your feet or the planet. You can also show your guests that you care about their comfort and the environment. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!
