This shoot was inspired by the anniversary of the 80th D-Day landings and the strong emotions that this has whipped up around the UK. The team wanted to showcase the romance drummed up by the soldiers returning home to their loved ones and the weddings which followed.
The styling and casting for this styled shoot was done as authentically as possible with real military vehicles from that period along with remade newspapers, an original WW2 RAF uniform, a 1940s vintage wedding dress veil and head dress along with room decorations, flowers, stationery and cake.
The flowers are all grown locally and they used what was in season at the time of the shoot as this is how weddings would have been done back in the 1940s they would have just used what was available. the wedding dress, head dress dress and veil are all original 1940s provided by Bex Bridal. The room decor, stationery and cake matched the theme perfectly bringing the whole shoot together. Amy Mason (Amy Scissor Sisters) who organised the shoot, really wanted to make sure they had the right team for this shoot. Amy wanted people to have the same passion for the theme as she does and Amy says with honesty, the team pulled it off perfectly.
Bex from BexBrides who provided the gowns had this to add, ‘When Amy said she wanted to do a 40s themed shoot, I knew we had just the right original pieces in our collection.
A beautiful damask satin late 40s (possibly early 50s) bridal gown, an original veil and a beautiful delicate wax orange blossom style headdress.
We also supplied a two piece apricot satin damask outfit suitable for the “going away” outfit. We are passionate about recycling and upcycled original vintage and retro pieces. Some of our collection are museum quality, but at affordable prices for brides who love history and sustainability’.
